Talibani forces have taken full control of Afghanistan after President Ashraf Ghani left the country. As a result, there is turmoil in Afghanistan as people seem helpless in the country.
After knowing the nearing of Taliban forces towards Kabul, President Ashraf Ghani has reportedly fled the country on Sunday. The current situation in Afghanistan has raised questions over Biden’s decision to withdraw the US forces from Afghanistan.
Earlier, the US President had predicted that the Taliban forces would not capture Afghanistan easily. However, it took the Taliban just 5 days to control Afghanistan’s capital city, Kabul.
Until now, operations are going on to evacuate the US officials safely from the US embassy in Kabul. Moreover, fumes of smoke were seen in Kabul as US diplomats burned documents carrying secret information.
Country Awaits Peaceful Transition of Powers
Afghan CEO Abdullah Abdullah, Ghani’s political rival, posted a video message on Facebook on Sunday to describe the situation. In his address, he referred to Ghani as the “former president” and confirmed the news of his fleeing the country.
Until now, there is no clarity regarding the head of the Afghan government in Kabul. Besides, it is not yet clear who will interact with the Taliban representatives for a transition of power. Ghani’s Twitter handle indicates the temporary transfer of power to Abdullah.
Developments are a Big Surprise for the US Officials
The entire action by the Taliban in Afghanistan has left the Biden administration stunned. The US President has presented no clear thoughts on this subject. The whole world is raising questions over the US decision to withdraw American forces from Afghanistan.
The State Department has asked Americans in Afghanistan to take shelter in peaceful areas. Moreover, it is carrying out its evacuation operations at its embassy. And it has instructed the US staff to head towards Hamid Karzai International Airport.
President Joe Biden had called for sending of the additional US military forces into Afghanistan. He took the decision to protect the airport and execute the evacuation process safely.
A few weeks ago, the Biden administration had tried to shift the blame for turmoil in Afghanistan on the Afghan government. He said the US had done the best it can to safeguard Afghanistan. Now, it depends on the Afghanistan leaders to take appropriate actions for its security.
Former US President Donald Trump has blamed Joe Biden for his poor decision. Moreover, he said Biden didn’t follow a plan before announcing the withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan.
