US Supreme Court has denied Biden’s request to scrape Donald Trump’s immigration policy related to Mexico. Now, Supreme Court has ordered Biden to revive his predecessor, Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy.
According to the Supreme Court, the Biden administration possibly violated federal law in a bid to end a Trump-era immigration program. Under Donald Trump’s immigration policy, Mexican people must stay in Mexico.
A lot of Mexican people awaited the US Supreme Court hearings to gain clarity on this subject. But, unfortunately, the three liberal justices dissented on this matter and denied the Biden Administration’s effort to block the lower court judge ruling.
After this order, the US Supreme Court wants the Biden administration to implement Trump’s “remain in Mexico” policy, known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program.
Decision to Affect Many People
This decision would affect many people and its effect on people’s lives is not easy to predict. However, as per the lower court ruling, the Biden administration must make efforts to restart the program.
In the Supreme Court’s order, a 6-3 conservative majority has led to this decision. And the justices panel included three justices appointed by Trump. So this small order by the justices dictates US District Judge Mathew Kacsmaryk’s ruling will come into action.
Department of Homeland Security to Challenge the Decision
The Department of Homeland Security has expressed its sadness on the Supreme Court’s decision in a clear narrative. And it said it would continue to challenge it in the district court ruling.
While appealing in this matter, the US agency has said it would keep good faith in its decision. Moreover, it said it has already started discussing the subject with Mexico.
The court’s decision takes a cue from its 2020 ruling that failed Trump’s attempt to end a program started by Democratic former President Barack Obama. Instead, it aimed at preventing the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants from the US.
Biden’s government headed towards the Supreme Court after Kacsmaryk’s ruling to reinstate the Trump policy. Earlier, the New Orleans-based 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals denied the government’s appeal for a delay on August 19.
MPP policy has received criticism from Democrats and immigration advocates. They say the policy is dangerous for migrants due to adverse conditions in Mexican border cities.
Earlier, Trump’s administration implemented the migrant policy by citing “security and humanitarian crisis” along the US-Mexican border.
