Google CEO Sunday Pichai has given a bold statement in a recent interview with the BBC. He said the free and open internet is facing many challenges across the world. On this subject, he has warned that internet freedom is at risk.

According to him, the actions by many countries to restrict the flow of information are not good for people’s privacy and freedom. Sundar Pichai enjoys a great place in the technological world. He is the boss of Google and its parent company Alphabet.

Moreover, the technocrat is a leader of companies including Waze, FitBit, and Deepmind, etc. The Google CEO manages Gmail, Google Chrome, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Photos, Google Earth, the Android operating system, etc.

Countries Restricting the Flow of Information With Rigid Boundaries

Google CEO Sundar Pichai says that many countries across the globe are imposing restrictions on the flow of information. For this, they are putting more rigid boundaries than before. Sundar Pichai believes it is not a good thing for the internet evolution.

Imposing mandatory to follow strict laws is not a good decision by countries with strong democratic values. His statement came after the Indian government decided to introduce new IT rules.

Needs Action to Prevent Fragmentation of the Internet

While many countries are introducing new IT rules, Sundar Pichai doesn’t consider it a good move. Moreover, Google’s CEO admits countries with strong democratic traditions and values should come forward to prevent the fragmentation of the internet.

He has released his statement following the introduction of new IT rules by the Indian government. Under these laws, social media platforms, OTT websites, news publishers, and search engines will be liable to delete offensive and inappropriate content within 36 hours.

Sundar Pichai has raised his voice on the definition of ‘offensive’ content as per the new IT rules on this very subject. Many critics say the new IT rules will steal people’s freedom of expression and privacy on the internet.

Sundar Pichai has said that the future holds the key to many new technological revolutions. According to him, artificial intelligence and quantum computing are the two major advances that one can expect enthusiastically.

Moreover, Google chief has said that Google is ready to walk every step with different governments to protect people’s privacy. Besides, he said the company would try its level best to comply with local laws. However, Pichai said governments must ensure free & open internet availability for people to enjoy surfing the internet.
